Iron Oxide Yellow Grade (Hematite Fe2O3)

General Description

Mineral pigments are colored natural earths used in the manufacture of oil and water paints and to give colour and body to cement, linoleum, oil cloth, rubber and sundry plastic materials. Yellow ocher is the only important natural mineral yellow and has been used since prehistoric times. It consists essentially of a mixture of clay, siliceous matter and hydrated iron oxide (limonite), but may contain various materials as impurities. The best varieties vary in colour from a lemon-yellow to a golden-yellow but it grades into a yellow-brown (sienna) and may be greyish due to impurities. The iron oxide content varies from 15-30% or more.
